The drive went by quickly with only one stop at Wendy's in Price. We drove through rain and at one point it was only around 45 degrees but it was beautiful. I love cloudy days much more than sunny ones so I was content snapping photos with my phone, watching the clouds and enjoying the sound of the rain hitting the car.
Once we arrived, we checked into our little cabin and unloaded our bags.
Brett's family was gone so we loaded up and went to Arches National Park. Afton was REALLY mad as we drove past the pool but cooled down once we hit the Visitor's Center. And after Brett and I pulled over and got out so she could scream alone for a minute. :)
We explored the Visitor's Center, went on a couple of hikes and made it back to camp just in time for a visit from Lauren and dinner. It was pretty late so after dinner we headed back to our cabin and Afton curled up in bed with a movie! The DVD player we borrowed from Melis was wonderful. Thanks Lissy!
Afton found a spot with a really good echo. She yelled and yelled and yelled!
We also found loads of great sand. Afton stopped a lot and we laughed at how content she was to just sit and play with the sand!
The next morning Brett and the girls found a fun little area right by our cabin. It had a huge chess set and checkers game. The girls played checkers with the chess pieces!
The next day we all headed to Arches and Afton was so happy to have Kenna and Rylie in our car! She looked from one to the other giggling and teasing and Brett and I loved having a full car!
Kenna and Afton were inseparable the entire trip and Afton was so happy! Kenna is the sweetest girl and she and Afton are best buds!
After a long day hiking we decided to hit the pool!
The next day we decided to go Canyonlands National Park with a quick detour at Dead Horse Point State Park. Every stop was a little stressful because we were surrounded by cliffs. Brett and I chased Afton (as she literally ran everywhere) and were relieved when we had her safely back in the car. We stopped for lunch, went on one really fun and hot hike and headed back to the camp for more swimming!
It cracks me up that no matter where you are kids are just drawn to the sand! Porter and Afton had so much fun running around, looking for lizards, and playing in the sand!
As we went to leave Steve realized he had a screw in his tire. We found a safe spot for the kids to climb and have a snack while the guys changed the tire! Way to go Steve!
The next day we played with bubbles, loaded up, checked out and went to the pool. Everyone else had gone but the three of us had fun. It was 88 degrees and we soaked up the warmth. The wind was blowing just enough to send cotton flying everywhere. It looked like summer snow!
We showered in the big bathrooms, headed into Moab and had a delicious lunch in a cute little cafe called the Peaceful Tree. It was definitely my kind of place. The menu was filled with wraps and smoothies and they made Afton a yummy little grilled cheese which she devoured. Brett of course got the one burger they offered and with full stomachs we headed into a couple of little shops so Afton could choose a souvenir. She wanted a necklace with a stone hanging from it but once she realized she could have an entire bag of stones she was really excited. She chose her stones quickly (no indecision like her mother) and we were off!
Man that was a lot of pictures. And I have so many more!
I loved, loved, loved this little vacation and can't wait to go back!!!

Lol.. you weren't lying! That's a lot of pics.
ReplyDeleteI especially love the one of her wearing your sunglasses. It looks like you had so much fun! I'm sad we missed it.
